All Hoboken voters have a chance to help acquire and build new parks by voting for the Open Space Trust Fund Referendum on November 6, 2007.

Passing this referendum does not guarantee that our Council will act! Our hope is to send a clear message to our Mayor and Council that the voters of Hoboken are willing to invest in new open space.

Public Question # 5

Vote YES because Hoboken needs more parks!

There just aren’t enough fields:

  • Young children are forced to practice sports late into the night.
  • Over 1,300 school children crowd into Church Square Park every day.
  • Our local sports teams – adult and youth – leave town to find field space.
  • Hoboken ranks dead last in New Jersey for open space per person.

Vote YES to bring millions of new dollars to Hoboken!

New Jersey helps cities that help themselves. Having an Open Space Trust Fund in Hoboken guarantees Green Acres funding through matching grants and provides a foundation for securing additional grants – this could mean millions of new dollars! And building new parks saves money too, by reducing strain on city services and our aging infrastructure.

Vote YES NOW because time is running out!

The cost of land has been rising for decades in Hoboken, but now – in the midst of a real estate slump and before land is rezoned for residential use – we have our last best chance to create meaningful open space in Hoboken. Vote YES for Parks to make it happen!
